Ryan Reynolds on How DETECTIVE PIKACHU Has Taken Over His Life

We’re getting closer and closer to the release of Detective Pikachu and the fun marketing is starting to ramp up. And who better to lead the charge than Ryan Reynolds, who has proved time and again with his Deadpool press runs that he’s the perfect person to go all-in on a bit!

Case in point: This fun video he posted to Twitter today, where he pokes fun at method acting and himself in an Inside the Actors Studio parody appropriately titled Outside the Actors Studio.

“I lived it, I breathed it. I became the character,” Reynolds says, referring of course to Pikachu himself, the fuzzy yellow CGI Pokémon he voices in the film. “I spent the entire year as Detective Pikachu.”

After sharing a story about how he didn’t pick up his daughters from school, because “Detective Pikachu doesn’t know who those two little girls are,” the video treats us to a surprise appearance from Reynolds’ real-life wife, actress Blake Lively, who goes for a whole “concerned love one” angle. It’s pretty dang cute.

Reynolds goes on, talking about how he immersed himself in the world of Pokémon, lived at Pikachu’s height, and “tried to lose 182 pounds until doctors intervened.” But then Blake Lively pops back in to remind us that he didn’t even change his voice for the role, let alone go method.

“Pika pika,” indeed.

Luckily, we don’t have long to wait before we can see if Reynolds really does pull of the part, because Detective Pikachu lands in theaters just a few months from now on May 10. Blake Lively says she won’t be going, but we certainly will.
