The first viral video for Hugh JackmanOpens in a new tab‘s next and (probably) final WolverineOpens in a new tab movie, LoganOpens in a new tab, showed our favorite feral mutant in pure form: driving a limo and looking into buying a boat from the Penny Saver. While that clip wasn’t terribly revealing in terms of the movie’s plot (again, probably), Logan‘s next viral video is a lot more revealing… not to mention disturbing.
On Wednesday morning, director James MangoldOpens in a new tab tweeted out a new video featuring a scenario that should be pretty familiar to longtime comic book fans, surrounding the character of X-23Opens in a new tab, played by Dafne KeenOpens in a new tab. You can watch the entire video below:

In the comics, the character of Laura Kinney was cloned from a damaged copy of Logan’s genome by a secret organization, one trying to recreate the original Weapon X project that resulted in Wolverine. Because the genome was damaged, they couldn’t salvage the Y chromosome, so Logan’s clone became a female. She was carried to term and raised by Dr. Sarah Kinney; once her mutation was prematurely activated, the adamantium claws were grafted on her, just as was done with Logan. Since she was the 23rd attempt at creating a viable Wolverine clone, she was given the name X-23.
Just like her genetic father before her, X-23 was created to be the perfect assassin and killing machine. Eventually, she escaped the facility and joined Xavier and the X-Men, though it seems that part of that comic book lore will be altered for Logan. For one thing, it seems there are no more X-Men–and in fact, no more new mutants–left in this dire future. However, judging from the latest video, it seems X-23’s origin story will otherwise remain largely intact.
Logan, directed by Mangold and starring Jackman, Keen, and Patrick StewartOpens in a new tab, hits theaters on March 3.
