Taron Egerton Sang Elton John’s ‘Your Song’ for Hugh Jackman

As someone who once spent an agonizing month ranking every song from The Greatest Showman from “least-best” to “best-best,” believe me I tell you I say this with nothing but love in my heart: you have to be a special kind of nerd to go see a Hugh Jackman concert where he sings a bunch of show tunes. (Coming to America this month!) But the type of person who would do that is also the type of person who would appreciate this!  The amazing surprise Jackman had for his audience while performing at the 02 Arena in London recently. He brought out another actor who has shown off his own musical chops on the big screen, the star of the Elton John biopic Rocketman, Taron Egerton, to sing one of Sir Elton’s greatest and most beloved hits, “Your Song.”

YouTube user Tara B shared this footage from the audience of the unexpected appearance. Jackman brought out the Rocketman star, who does all of his own singing in the film. Jackman and Egerton co-starred in 2015’s Eddie the Eagle and have remained friends. Egerton then led the crowd in a beautiful rendition of the iconic song.

On a personal note, “Your Song” is one of my all-time favorite tracks. The only way this could be better is if halfway through the song Hugh Jackman turned it into a duet. No, wait, even better would have been if Elton John himself had then surprised everyone, Jackman and Egerton included, by also coming out on stage. (John and Egerton have already done a live duet together.)

With Jackman about to kick off the U.S. leg of the tour, and with Rocketman in theaters right now, what better way to promote both endeavors than singing together? And think of how many of my fellow music-loving nerds it would make happy.
