Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 saw the MCU’s original bunch of losers go their separate ways while Rocket led a new iteration of the group. Will we ever see that version of the Guardians on the big screen again? Marvel Studios has never said, but the 2023 movie that saw the new Guardians form did end with a promise we’d eventually see one of the old Guardians again. After one last end-credits scene, the film ended with a title card that said “The legendary Star-Lord will return.” That has yet to happen, but Chris Pratt says it definitely will because the superhero is “not going anywhere.”
On The Bingeworthy podcast, Pratt told The Playlist’s Mike DeAngelo about fulfilling the promised return of Peter Quill to the MCU. While his answer didn’t explain how or when that could happen, he made clear it will. “I have a great relationship with Kevin [Feige] and Lou [D’Esposito],” he said. “And there have been both ongoing conversations about how we make good on that promise and also hard action taken to make sure that we make good on that promise.”
Pratt added he’s “very excited” because Star-Lord is “not going anywhere,” but he’s “not at liberty to say when that’s going to be. Sure, but left unsaid is the obvious way Star-Lord could return very soon. Doctor Doom is about to wage war on the multiverse in Avengers: Doomsday. He’s then all but guaranteed to bring even more heroes together in Avengers: Secret Wars. It’s almost impossible to think Star-Lord wouldn’t get pulled into that film’s story. Not that we’re ruling him out of Doomsday. The first film in the two-part crossover event is sure to have some surprise appearances in store.
Could Victor von Doom force Peter Quill to defend every galaxy? Will that lead to a reunion with the current iteration of the Guardians? That would certainly qualify as a legendary return for the legendary Star-Lord.
