3D Print Your Face Onto an Action Figure with the Hasbro Selfie Series

Every kid who ever made their G.I. Joes fight their Power Rangers action figures has wanted a figure of themselves in on the battle. Well, thanks to the wonders of modern technology, Hasbro can make that dream a reality now. Via Gizmodo, we’ve learned about Hasbro’s new Selfie Series. These are six-inch figures that will wear your face. Yes, you can now become an action figure. Hasbro’s Selfie Series takes a digital scan of your face and then 3D-prints it and places it on the body of an action figure from a popular line. And soon, these Selfie Series figures will become more widely available. You can see how Hasbro, partnered with Formlabs, accomplished all this in the video below:

The face scanning for this process is done through the Hasbro Pulse mobile app. This is available for both iOS and Android. Fans will have the option of basing their figure on “classic to current characters seen across popular films, TV, and comics.” Of course, this means only IP Hasbro has the license for. So you’re out of luck if you want a Batman or a Star Trek character to wear your face.

Additionally, Adam Savage’s Tested channel gave us an even more in-depth look at the process of creating these figures. Yep, we need one of these, stat.

Right now, the Hasbro Selfie Series figures include ones based on G.I. JoeGhostbustersPower Rangers, Marvel, and designs inspired by Star Wars. There may be contractual clauses keeping one from being Han or Rey. Or any character with a specific actor’s likeness really. However, things like X-Wing pilots and Stormtroopers are on the table. There is a “Rebel Princess” option, which is interesting, given that the franchise only has one famous rebel princess.

At the moment, the Hasbro Selfie Series will only be available in the United States. Certain lucky fans were able to visit the Hasbro Pulse booth at SDCC to get an early figure. But now, Hasbro will be rolling out the Selfie Series more widely, so you can have your very own action figure.

According to Gizmodo, the Selfie Series figures will launch to the public on September 30. These custom action figures will only be available through the Hasbro Pulse mobile app. Per Gizmodo, this is mainly because to get a Selfie Series figure, one will need to take, you guessed it, a selfie. Apparently, five different headshots highlighting a single expression will be required for the process. Consumers will also need to customize their hair color and style, along with any facial hair for their custom toy. They will select from between fifty different options when it comes to hairstyle. And, of course, customers will need to select which character they wish to transform into for their own custom action figure.

Presently, available Selfie Series options include Mandalorian Warrior, Stormtrooper, X-Wing Pilot, Rebel Princess, Black Panther, Black Widow, Spider-Man, Iron Man, Female Rookie, Male Rookie, Snake Eyes, Scarlett, Red Ranger, and Pink Ranger.

One Hasbro Selfie Series figure will set you back approximately $80, a higher price tag than first announced. Still, this seems a reasonable price to have yourself immortalized in plastic as your favorite character. The Hasbro Selfie Series starts shipping this fall. The figures may take 45-60 days to arrive. For more information, be sure to click here.
