GODZILLA Takes on MIGHTY MORPHIN POWER RANGERS in a New Comic

Both of these properties began in Japan, eventually extending globally, becoming pop-culture sensations. (With sometimes questionable English language dubs for both). We’re talking about Godzilla, King of the Monsters and the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers. And now, these two titanic franchises are going to collide. The fight begins in a brand new comics mini-series from IDW Comics with BOOM! Studios. The epic five-part Godzilla vs. Mighty Morphin Power Rangers debuts in March 2022.

Writer Cullen Bunn (Deadpool) teams up with artist Freddie Williams II for this series. Williams is no stranger to big IP crossovers, having illustrated Batman/Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles as well as  He-Man/ThunderCats. This is much bigger than either previous series though, since Godzilla measures 984 feet tall and all. And for those wondering, this is classic Godzilla and old-school Power Rangers. You can read the official description below:

“When Rita Repulsa uses an ancient artifact to transport herself to a universe without Power Rangers, she finds herself in a world with aliens, kaiju, and… Godzilla! Hoping to annihilate this new foe, Rita hurls her own terrible creatures into battle. But she never expects that the Rangers have followed her to this alternate reality, pitting the Dinozords themselves head-to-head with the King of the Monsters!”

In a statement, Williams II said, “This will be the biggest, most stratospheric crossover I’ve ever drawn! It’s the combination of so many big genres. Giant Monsters vs. Mechs. Martial arts vs. science and magic. With lots of collateral destruction!”

Godzilla vs. Mighty Morphin Power Rangers’ first issue features multiple cover variants. One of these comes from Freddie Williams II, while a second one comes from Transformers’ E.J. Su.  Coolest of all, the covers for issues #2-5 combine like Voltron to make a panoramic fight scene image. (But no, Voltron isn’t in this series that we know of). Issue number one of this epic crossover event hits comic shops and digital in March. As Ken Watanabe said in 2014’s Godzilla, “ Let them fight.”
