Many believed that the current thirteenth season of the long-running anthology series American Horror Story would be its last. Especially since this season, simply titled AHS13, features returning actors and players from across the series’ many years, almost like an all-star crossover event. These even include the iconic Jessica Lange and Angela Bassett. But seeing as this season has been the highest-rated one yet on Hulu, perhaps another iteration was inevitable. Deadline is now reporting that American Horror Story has been given a season 14 renewal. Ryan Murphy and Brad Falchuk remain as executive producers.

This news actually marks the first renewal for American Horror Story in nearly seven years. The anthology series, which began on FX back in 2011 with Murder House, received a three-season pickup in January 2020 for Seasons 11, 12, and 13. Given how long the show has been around, and how much it had seemingly lost its pop culture power, many assumed season 13 would be the last hurrah. Apparently, many of the actors who signed on to the show’s thirteenth season also believed it would be the end. And they wanted to help the show go out with a bang. But big ratings always mean another shot.
Nerdist’s Take: With So Many Horror Genres Already Covered by Previous Seasons, We’re Rooting for a Werewolf Season Now
We have zero clue what season 14 of American Horror Story would focus on. The series has covered almost every known horror genre, and then some. We’ve had haunted houses, insane asylums, witch covens, freak shows, ’80s slashers, even reality-reenactment horror. We also had that one year that Lady Gaga was a vampire who ran a spooky hotel.
We suppose they’ve never done a werewolf season. We’d be into that. Although there’s no casting announcement, we expect roles for series regulars like Sarah Paulson, Evan Peters, Billie Lourd, and Emma Roberts. It seems they are always game for more spooky and campy antics.
