New MOONFALL Trailer Couldn’t Be More Perfectly Ridiculous

You should never judge a movie before you see it. Sometimes bad films have great trailers and vice versa. Until you actually watch a movie you have no idea if it’s genuinely good or not. But sometimes you can judge whether or not a movie will be wildly entertaining from its trailer. Like with the newest one for Roland Emmerich’s latest disaster flick Moonfall. Because everything about this ridiculous movie, which features an Oscar winner fighting the literal moon, looks completely bonkers in the best way.

Every time you think this trailer can’t get better it does. And no one can convince me otherwise: Patrick Wilson and Halle Berry either did this movie for free or each got paid 50 million dollars. How else do you explain two great actors agreeing to star in a film where they fight the Moon? And that’s really what’s going to happen. Since the Moon’s not “what you think it is.” It’s being controlled by an unknown entity that is using our lunar neighbor to attack Earth. Amazing. There’s not a chef in this solar system who can deliver a kiss big enough to capture the premise of this film. The official synopsis doesn’t even do it justice. From Lionsgate:

“In Moonfall, a mysterious force knocks the Moon from its orbit around Earth and sends it hurtling on a collision course with life as we know it. With mere weeks before impact and the world on the brink of annihilation, NASA executive and former astronaut Jo Fowler (Halle Berry) is convinced she has the key to saving us all – but only one astronaut from her past, Brian Harper (Patrick Wilson) and a conspiracy theorist K.C. Houseman (John Bradley) believes her. These unlikely heroes will mount an impossible last-ditch mission into space, leaving behind everyone they love, only to find out that our Moon is not what we think it is.”

This whole film is essentially a Stefon bit from SNL. This movie has everything. An Oscar winner. Creedence Clearwater Revival. Government conspiracies. Killer aliens. A fictional website where you can learn about the Moon attacking Earth. Donald Sutherland.

It also has this shot.

“Screw the moon” might be my first and only tattoo.

The film also stars Michael Peña, Charlie Plummer, Kelly Yu, Eme Ikwuakor, and Carolina Bartczak. With a script Emmerich wrote with Harald Kloser & Spenser Cohen.

Will this movie be any good when it crashes into theaters on February 4? Despite this wonderfully ridiculous trailer, we have to see it to know for sure. But we’re willing to wager it will end up being among this year’s most entertaining ones.
