SCOOBY-DOO Anime Series Heads to Tubi, Casts Big Names

A few months back, we reported news that Scooby-Doo and pals were coming back in a new anime-inspired series. Earlier this year, it carried the title Scooby-Doo! Gokko. Well, now we’ve learned, via Variety, that the anime series, now called Yokoso Scooby-Doo!, has found itself a home on Tubi. The new show, which translates into “Welcome Scooby-Doo,” will feature the return of Scooby icons Frank Welker, once again voicing Scoob, and Matthew Lillard, who is, of course, playing Shaggy once more. Tubi will be the show’s home in North America, while Cartoon Network will air it internationally. Below, you can read the Scooby-Doo anime’s official synopsis and check out a first-look image from the show.

The Scooby-Doo anime’s synopsis reads:

While visiting Japan on the ultimate foodie adventure, Scooby-Doo and Shaggy unwittingly unleash hundreds of mythical monsters that are causing trouble across the country. With the help of Scooby’s uncle, Daisuke-Doo, along with new friends, a magical girl Yume and gadget whiz Takumi, the group embarks on an all-new mystery filled with monster chasing and fun chaos.

It seems Fred, Daphne, and Velma are sitting this anime series out, as Scooby and Shaggy make new friends in Japan. Which wouldn’t be the first time, as several cartoons in the early ’80s chose not to include the whole gang. At least Scrappy-Doo seems nowhere to be found this time. Tubi’s Adam Lewinson said, “Scooby-Doo is one of the most beloved franchises in entertainment, and Yokoso Scooby-Doo! lets us reinvent it in a way fans haven’t seen before.”

Currently, there is no release date set for Yokoso Scooby-Doo! But we hope the anime will land sooner rather than later.

Frank Welker has been part of the Scooby-Doo franchise since 1969, when he voiced the character of Fred. He took over the role of Scooby from Don Messick in 2002, while also continuing to voice Fred. Matthew Lillard started playing Shaggy in the 2002 live-action Scooby-Doo movie, taking over the role in animation when Casey Kasem passed away. Their inclusion in this new anime series gives it true Scooby-Doo legitimacy. A live-action Scooby-Doo: Origins series is coming to Netflix soon as well. So, along with Yokoso Scooby-Doo!, it’s going to be a Scooby media takeover here soon.
