What We Do in the Shadows‘ first season was a worthy followup to Taika Waititi and Jemaine Clement’s sublime 2014 mockumentary. The FX series captured the film’s spirt and the inherent silliness of vain vampires living in the modern world. It also gave us new ways to appreciate the undead, as we were introduced to Energy Vampires. But as the latest promo for What We Do in the Shadows‘ second season shows, everything is about to change for the incompetent blood suckers. They will all have to deal with an old problem in a new form: a descendant of Van Helsing. His name is Guillermo, Nandor’s familiar.
“What We Do in the Shadows follows four vampires who’ve ‘lived; together for hundreds of years. In Season 2, the vampires will try to find their way in a world of human Super Bowl parties, internet trolls, an energy vampire who gets a promotion and becomes drunk on power and of course, all the ghosts, witches, necromancers, zombies and shadowy cloaked assassins who roam freely in the Tri-State area.”
The latest trailer for the series’ second season offers our best glimpse yet at what to expect when the show returns. (Though no sign of Mark Hamill yet!) Matt Berry, Natasia Demetriou, and Kayvan Novak’s centuries-old vampires will be dealing with new characters and new problems, like ghosts and other supernatural beings. Their biggest issue is a major existential crisis for vampire wannabe Guillermo (Harvey Guillen). He learns he has a very famous ancestor, and it will put his master in harm’s way.
We’re also excited to see even more ridiculous stories for Mark Proksch’s Energy Vampire Colin Robinson. His season two promos have all been killer.
In fact, all of the show’s season two teasers and trailers have been excellent. Season two could be even better than the first, which was one of our favorite shows of 2019.
We really hope Guillermo doesn’t kill all the vampires. It would be really funny, but then we wouldn’t get a third season.
What We Do in the Shadows‘ second season premieres on April 15.
