We’re a little more than a week away from WandaVision‘s debut and we have no idea what to expect. Trailers and commercials tease a series that looks both trippy and revolutionary; a real status-quo shift in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. It’s the first MCU TV series coming to Disney+, so there will be a lot of eyes on this project. We’re so excited to see what the show has in store for us.
For one thing, it seems full of surprises. There are tons of Easter eggs in the show’s trailers and posters. And today we learned that Frozen songwriters Kristen Anderson-Lopez and Robert Lopez will contribute music to WandaVision. The show “is a blend of classic television and the Marvel Cinematic Universe in which Wanda Maximoff and Vision—two super-powered beings living idealized suburban lives—begin to suspect that everything is not as it seems.” Which means it’s in need of some catchy theme tunes, to go with all of the classic shows it emulates. The first tune from the Frozen scribes can be heard in this new TV spot.
So goes the song: “Oh a newlywed couple just moved to town, a regular husband and wife.” But the cheeriness of the notes don’t really match what we’re seeing onscreen. Something is up for our central characters. Vision, as we know, is dead in our reality after the events of Avengers: Infinity War. Is WandaVision an elaborate dream in Wanda Maximoff’s head? Or is there something else going on?
Until we know the answers, let’s focus on what we do know: that this vintage-sounding music is excellent! The Lopezes—a married couple who, in addition to their work on Frozen, also wrote “Remember Me” from Coco—are Oscar winners for their previous contributions to Disney. In a press release from Disney+, it sounds like they were just as excited to join WandaVision as we are to hear their music.
Marvel
“WandaVision is such a cool, strange, one-of-a-kind project,” says Lopez. “When the director, Matt Shakman—an old friend from my college days—pitched it to us, we didn’t have to think about it.”
WandaVision stars Elizabeth Olsen and Paul Bettany. The first episode debuts on Disney+ on January 15.
