Multiverse shenanigans are all the rage. First in Loki, and now Spider-Man: No Way Home. And soon, we’re in for a whole big Multiverse of Madness with Doctor Strange. But for the handful of you out there that haven’t seen the latest Spider-Man film yet, let us issue a big, honkin’ warning for your protection:
Ok, so one of the highlights of No Way Home was seeing original Spider-Man actor Tobey Maguire come through that magical Sling Ring portal, recently arrived from his own alternate universe. (And of course, Andrew Garfield too). But what if Raimi-verse Peter starts visiting other not-so-Marvelous cinematic universes? Well, one fan has already started to ponder that scenario.
Via Geeks Are Sexy, we’ve come across a video from YouTuber Jonkari P. In it, Peter ports over to the Shrek universe, right in the middle of a certain Gingerbread Man’s interrogation scene. Then, things go a bit sideways. You can watch the video right here:
The video uses scenes from the first Spider-Man, and a bit of a famous music cue from Spider-Man 2. Does anyone who grew up with the Raimi Spider-Man movies hear “Raindrops Keep Falling On My Head” and not think of Peter Parker stumbling around New York like a big dork? In any event, this video is a nice little reminder of an era when the biggest blockbuster franchises were Raimi’s Spider-Man films, and the movies about a big green ogre who hangs out with a talking donkey. Simpler times.
Hopefully, we see more Tobey Spidey portal over into other early 2000s movie universes soon. Let’s see Peter wander into the uncanny valley world of The Polar Express saying “Pizza Time!” Or maybe just have him swimming by in some random scene from Finding Nemo. After all, Tobey has already fought prequel-era Jedi. After that, we’re pretty sure he has no limits.
