THE AFTERPARTY Throws a Killer Reunion in New Series Trailer

We don’t exactly need convincing to see a Chris Miller and Phil Lord project. The duo behind Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, The LEGO Movie, and 21 Jump Street has the kind of resume that sells whatever they’re doing next. But even though we didn’t need one, we still appreciate getting a great new trailer for their upcoming Apple TV+ series The Afterparty. Because it features a killer cast, a killer premise, and a killer with an old grudge.

As good as this trailer is, it only hints at all the fun that will come from a single crime. The Rashomon-storytelling approach will also take the series through totally different genres. That should help every episode feel like its own event. Here’s the official synopsis from Apple TV+:

“The Afterparty is a genre-defying series centered on a murder mystery at a high school reunion, with each episode exploring a different character’s account of the fateful evening in question, all through the lens of popular film genres and unique visuals to match the storyteller’s perspective.”

We already can’t wait for the musical episode. We’re also all in on the reason these people came together in the first place. Adding in the extra tension—and comedy—of unresolved high school drama is a perfect touch. The cast is pretty flawless too. The show stars Tiffany Haddish, Sam Richardson, Zoë Chao, Ben Schwartz, Ike Barinholtz, Ilana Glazer, Jamie Demetriou, and Dave Franco.

Miller created and directs the series and serves as showrunner. And he executive produces along with Lord and Anthony King (Search Party). That information alone would have been enough to get us to tune in. But we’re still really glad we have this trailer. Especially since the murder-mystery comedy doesn’t debut on Apple TV+ until early next year. A murder most foul and hilarious begins on January 28, 2022.
