Sure, people punching and kicking each other isn’t inherently funny, but it depends on who’s doing the punching and kicking. The cast of Street Fighter, for example. They all seemed to have a lot of fun while filming, which presumably translated to good fight scenes. At any rate, ahead of the premiere of the movie this Friday, Legendary and Paramount have released a behind-the-scenes blooper reel featuring, among other things, people playing the video game Street Fighter. Meta, innit?
Perhaps the most surprising part of the entire video package is that Eric Andre is actually a good upright bass player. I had no idea he was a jazz major. I’d have guessed he majored in yelling. Very unsurprising is that everyone seems to think Orville Peck, who plays Vega, is attractive. I mean, other than the mask which we can never see behind, of course.
My favorite thing, I think, is the brief moment we get to see Cody Rhodes practicing Guile’s infamous flash kick, because it requires wires and practice. But he practiced without the perfectly flat Guile wig, so you’d think that would change the equilibrium of the flip. Oh well, I guess that’s why he’s Guile and I’m just Kyle. Everyone likes Guile, except Roman Reigns who says since Cody’s playing him he’s—ahem—not as into him anymore.

Street Fighter, from director Kitao Sakurai, features dozens of beloved video game characters, references to specific games and media, and even Ken beating the crap out of a car. It’s also hilarious, which will certainly have you saying “Ha-ha-hadoken” in the theater. Better show Ryu and Ken some respect and check the movie out for yourselves this weekend. And then check out our interview with M. Bison himself, David Dastmalchian.
