Over the past several years, we’ve seen some incredible a cappella renditions of John Williams’ Star Wars themes. But most of the Star Wars a cappella performances stick to the original trilogy. And this makes sense, to a certain extent. The original films remain the most iconic and widely seen by the general audience. But as the generation that grew up with the prequels have come of age, they’ve been showing their love for Episodes I-III too.
Case in point: vocalist Peter Hollens. He’s created an a cappella medley of John Williams’ themes from the prequel era. He did all this in collaboration with YouTube channel The Warp Zone. And thanks to Geeks Are Sexy, we discovered this musical love letter to The Phantom Menace, Attack of the Clones, and Revenge of the Sith. You can have a listen in the video below:
Williams’ most memorable prequel themes all get their moment in the sun in Hollens’ performance. Or suns, if you’re on Tatooine. Of course, they start with the main theme. We then transition into the Clone Army music. Next is “The Battle of the Heroes.” This is when Anakin and Obi-Wan have their fateful duel. Following that is the love theme “Across the Stars.” Finally, there’s perhaps the prequel’s most famous piece of music, “Duel of the Fates.” First used in The Phantom Menace, it appears again in Episodes II and III. Qui-Gon actually turns into a Force Ghost during this segment.
Peter Hollens
Since The Warp Zone crew helped out Hollins with his medley, he helped out with their original trilogy tribute. And that one features all the greatest hits. Pieces like “The Imperial March,” “Princess Leia’s Theme,” and “Binary Sunset.” Hopefully, we see these folks collaborate on the sequel era music as well. Rey’s theme deserves her a cappella glory too. And so does the First Order theme. To check out more musical goodness from Peter Hollens, be sure to head on over to his YouTube channel.
