Book clubs continue to reign supreme, even in the age of content overload with far too many shows to consume. There’s something about gathering with others and diving into a story with lots of chats, analysis, and fun. We are obviously fans of the book club life here at Nerdist. Netflix is hopping into this arena with Netflix Book Club, a global club to read the books that inspired the streaming service’s popular adaptations.
According to a press release, readers will get word about books and adaptations ahead of time along with exclusive access to behind-the-scenes content. Club members will know how their favorite books go from print to screen. Best of all, Emmy Award winner and Orange Is the New Black star Uzo Aduba will be the first host of the club. It’s the closest I will get to being her friend.
She will announce monthly book selections which are, of course, coming to Netflix and host conversations with the creators, cast, and book authors. The convos will include a cup of coffee at Starbucks in the series “But Have You Read the Book?”
It will start on November 16 and be available on the Netflix US channel and Still Watching Netflix YouTube channel. Aduba speaks further about her excitement as a book lover:
“I can’t tell you how many times I’ve asked friends, ‘But have you read the book?’ So I’m excited to host Netflix Book Club and bring together loyal book fans, TV and movie obsessives and the creators behind their favorite stories. I can’t wait to dive deep into the creative process and what it takes to bring a book to life.”

The book club itself kicks off on November 10 with Nella Larsen’s Passing, a Harlem Renaissance era love story about Black women who can pass as white. The film starring Ruth Negga and Tessa Thompson will hit the streaming service on the same day. Fans can go to the Netflix Book Club website and sign up via email to get more information. And, they can see what book adaptations are streaming now. So, if you wanna be in a really BIG book club, head over and get ready to dive in.
