Football fans know who “Mr. Irrelevant” is. The last player selected in the NFL draft every year earns that title. But soon even moviegoers who don’t know the difference between a blitz and an audible will know why it’s possible for someone to rise about that ignominious moniker. The new emotional trailer for Mr. Irrelevant introduces Superman‘s David Corenswet as John Tuggle. He was a member of the New York Giants who fought a battle much tougher than earning an unlikely roster spot.

Hearing your name called at the NFL draft doesn’t guarantee you’ll play in the NFL. The large majority of players selected between rounds 3 and 7 don’t make their team’s roster. And the later in the draft you’re taken the lower your odds of breaking through. And there’s no spot lower than the very last pick, which is where John Tuggle went in his draft year.
