New Marvel Legends Line Brings the Retro Fun

Hasbro’s Marvel Legends collector’s toys are usually the state-of-the-art in modern action figures. Sophisticated sculpts and articulation is usually the name of the game. But their latest offerings are delightfully retro and low tech. Hasbro has just announced (via Gamespot) a brand new Marvel Legends wave under the Kenner label hitting this fall. And if you grew up with the old school figures of the ’80s and ’90s, then these figures will be tickle all your nostalgic feels.

These Marvel Legends retro action figures are featured in a Marvel Comic Presents box, an homage to the beloved ’80s comic book team-up series. Each box has a design which looks like the cover of one of those classic Marvel Comics issues. Two figures come in each pack, with each one measuring 3.75 inches a piece. The two-packs will set you back $20 a pop.

First in the line are Captain America and Black Panther, followed by Iron Man and the X-Men’s leader Cyclops. The wave rounds out with Spider-Man and his nemesis Electro. All figures in this wave feature the characters in their Silver and Bronze Age costumes. They call to mind the classic Secret Wars toy line of the ’80s. ’90s kids will no doubt be reminded of the old Toy Biz Spider-Man and X-Men: The Animated Series action figure lines as well.

There’s no word yet if this retro series is going to continue past this initial wave, but we sure hope so. We’d love to see a Walt Simonson era Thor and Loki two-pack, not to mention the Hulk and Abomination. And bring on versions of the Fantastic Four and the X-Men in the style of artist John Byrne as well! All of these figures will be arriving this fall, and available for pre-order at  Hasbro Pulse beginning on Friday, September 25 at 5 PM EST.
