With the (Avengers) Doomsday Clock ticking ever closer to the movie’s release, retailers and fans alike can hardly handle the anticipation. LEGO has just revealed its new Doomsday set lineup, and it looks awesome.
The sets bring together collectible pieces and Brickheadz with intense battle scenes and plenty of minifigs. They may even reveal plot points from the movie.
Set 1: Doctor Doom Bust
After nonchalantly stopping Stormbreaker with two fingers, Doctor Doom definitely deserved his own collector’s set. In his bust set, you can build the upper portion of his armor, his mask, and his signature green cowl. The set comes with a mini-figure alongside the bust and the Marvel-Lego collaboration placard.
As expected for most LEGO busts, the set will cost $49.99. This set releases on September 1, and is now available for pre-order.
Set 2: The New Avengers Tower
This set portrays a scene at the new Avengers Tower after its purchase and repair in Thunderbolts. Now called The Watchtower, this set may be hinting at a significant battle scene taking place there.
The set comes with six minifigures from across the MCU: Doctor Doom, Red Guardian, Yelena, Bucky, Sentry and… the Human Torch?
This seems to give us a hint at what subgroups and teams may form over the course of the movie, with three characters last seen in Thunderbolts fighting Doom alongside a member of the Fantastic 4. We saw the tower in the trailer, but we had no idea what might happen there.
The set will come out on October 4, just over two months before the movie premieres, at $109.99.
Set 3: Avengers: Doomsday Quinjet
With specialized folding wings, honored by LEGO, the Quinjet is an iconic aircraft used by both the Avengers and S.H.I.E.L.D. This is not LEGO’s first Quinjet set, with their Age of Ultron set being a bit more complex and coming with a display stand.
This set reveals another interesting grouping. The minifigs included are Cyclops, the Thing, Captain America, and Doom. Each character hails from a different grouping in the MCU. THis oculd be a sign this ragtag group ends up head to head with Doom at some point during the movie.
At only $59.99, what the set lacks in detail it makes up for in value, with four minifigures and a structure. LEGO will also release this one on October 4.
Set 4: Marvel Epic Battle: Doomsday Showdown
I certainly hope LEGO isn’t spoiling the movie’s final boss battle months before Doomsday premieres, but it is always possible. In their Epic Battle set, Doom and a Sentry battle Mystique, Nightcrawler, Mr. Fantastic, Thor, and Magneto. While most of these characters are from the X-Men franchise, considering the scene takes place at the X-Mansion, Mr. Fantastic and Thor are outliers. This suggests yet another unlikely team-up.
The Sentry has an extra head and arm for replacements after the Avengers do their damage. Thor wields Stormbreaker, not Mjölnir, Magneto’s face shows his age, and Mr. Fantastic has elongated legs.
The set will cost $99.99, and LEGO will release it on October 4.
Set 5: Brickheadz
Last but certainly not least, of course LEGO was going to make new Brickheadz figures for the movie. An odd collection of characters to be sure, the set features four figures: Doom, Gambit, Thor, and The Thing. Doom has certainly gotten his fair share of attention from this LEGO collection, but this is Gambit’s first appearance.
Whether these heroes (excluding Doom, of course) actually team up or they just happen to be one character to represent their groups remains to be seen. For four collectable figures, the $39.99 price tag doesn’t seem so bad. LEGO will release the set on October 4.
LEGO definitely managed to feature plenty of main characters across the movie, most of all Doom. I am curious, though, where Susan Storm, Black Panther, Shang-Chi, Ant-Man, and Loki are, among others who appeared in the trailer.
With the exception of the Doom bust dropping September 1, all of these sets will be available starting October 4.
