The Vanity Fair lie detector videos have become a YouTube sensation over the past few years. It’s provided us with legendary viral moments from Pedro Pascal, Lady Gaga, Cynthia Erivo, and Ariana Grande. Not to mention, Keke Palmer’s memorable quote, “Sorry to this man,” when she didn’t recognize former VP Dick Cheney while taking the test. Now, the Vanity Fair lie detector test has possibly reached its peak form, as Kermit the Frog and Miss Piggy have taken their own test for a new video. This is all part of the promotion for their new Muppet Show special on Disney+. And it’s as instantly iconic as you’d expect. You can watch the full video below:
Kermit is, of course, squirming at Piggy’s questions. And the blonde diva makes sure every question is, in some way, about herself. Piggy comes out of the gate swinging, asking her beloved Kermy if she qualifies as the greatest performer he’s ever worked with. Kermit sheepishly answers “yes,” even though Elton John, Diana Ross, and Gene Kelly were guests on The Muppet Show. (Kermit isn’t dumb; Kermit wants to live.) Eventually, it’s Kermit’s time to turn the tables. Let’s just say Miss Piggy (whose full name she reveals as “Miss Pigaythia Lee”) gives responses that might qualify as “untruthful.”

The whole video is a delightful reminder that when presented right, the Muppets are timeless and hilarious. For the past thirty years, Disney has tried to reinvent the Muppets for “modern audiences” to varying degrees of success. We loved the 2011 The Muppets movie, but for every one of those, Disney produced another undercooked attempt with the characters. As the new Muppet Show special proved, all people wanted was the classic series, but with modern celebrity guests. Hopefully, we get a whole lot more of this classic Muppets energy soon. Jim Henson’s beloved creations are easily the most undervalued assets in Disney’s library.
The Muppet Show special presentation is now streaming on Disney+.
