Here’s How You Convert an IKEA Lamp Into the Death Star

A crafty TikToker shared his Death Star IKEA lamp conversion and it’s quite something. While perusing the mazes of IKEA, you may even have seen this “exploding” lamp and had the same idea. Now we have confirmation that it works. In between buying cushions you don’t really need and snacking on meatballs, you could also be upping your Star Wars fandom game.

Sometimes it takes 15 minutes to explain a cool build. But this one is just 15 seconds and seems totally reproducible. Buy the lamp, spray paint it grey, then add black vinyl tape. There are other builders out there who shared more detailed instructionsOpens in a new tab for those who would find that helpful.

Sadly, the base is just called the IKEA PS 2014 pendant lampOpens in a new tab and not something like Nömun. The official description, however, does say that the design is “inspired by science fiction movies.” So this could very well be the ultimate purpose for this lamp! IKEA’s social media team even shared it in the Star Wars Day post below back in 2015.

As suggested in the TikTok video’s comments, the pull cord that opens the lamp really should be a mini X-wing fighter. How awesome of an addition would that be? And while we did see multiple videos converting the lamp to the Death Star, we didn’t come across any designs to turn it into Alderaan. Too soon?
