In a new behind-the-scenes look at Cabinet of Curiosities, Guillermo del Toro says the anthology series “is a show that I’ve always wanted to make.” Not all lifelong passion projects end up being everything their creators dreamed of, though. Fortunately, that’s clearly not what the Oscar-winner had in mind for his upcoming Netflix series. It looks like a total nightmare. Eight stylish nightmares, to be exact. Together they make up one of our most anticipated releases of 2022. And you don’t even have to watch this new teaser to see why. New Cabinet Of Curiosities images offer plenty of nightmare fuel, all created with practical effects.
This fall, Guillermo del Toro and friends will bring eight terrifying tales to Netflix. Here’s the show’s official synopsis:
In Cabinet Of Curiosities, acclaimed Academy Award-winning filmmaker and creator, executive producer and co-showrunner Guillermo del Toro has curated a collection of unprecedented and genre-defining stories meant to challenge our traditional notions of horror. From macabre to magical, gothic to grotesque or classically creepy, these eight equally sophisticated and sinister tales (including two original stories by del Toro) are brought to life by a team of writers and directors personally chosen by del Toro.
As great as this teaser is, new official images from Netflix are scary enough to sell us on the series. Especially when you remember they feature the kind of practical effects del Toro is known for.
The streaming site also released the complete list of episodes along with their directors and stars. You can find the full lineup at the end of this article. The question isn’t what big names are involved, but rather which ones aren’t. This series is loaded with incredible creators and actors.
While each installment features its own all-star team, they will all be different. In a statement, del Toro explained why each story will have its own unique flavor. “With Cabinet Of Curiosities, we set out to showcase the realities existing outside of our normal world: the anomalies and curiosities,” he said. “We hand-picked and curated a group of stories and storytellers to deliver these tales, whether they come from outer space, supernatural lore, or simply within our minds.”
The series will debut on Netflix on Tuesday, October 25, with two episodes. The streaming site will then release two new episodes a day through Friday, October 28. (However, the official guide below is in alphabetical order, not release order.) And we can’t think of a better way to prep for Halloween than with a Guillermo del Toro anthology horror series. That sounds like a dream come true. One that will almost certainly give us nightmares.
