We can debate until the next Great Conjunction what we love best about The Dark Crystal movie, but ultimately there is a clear and indisputable answer to this. No, it’s not the lore of Thra and the crystal, nor is it the Gelflings or the Skeksis. It’s not even the amazing puppetry that brought the fantasy story to life. The unquestionable best part about the movie always have been and always will be Fizzgig, that adorable rolling ball of fur who we would still very much like to adopt.
Now, we’d like to take all of his ancestors home too, because Netflix’s new prequel series The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance is bringing way more of those lovable fuzzballs to the screen. And to celebrate the release of the show, they let an entire fizzgig chorus “sing” the official theme song.
We’ve always thought of a fizzgig as being more dog-like, but when it comes to singing they’re obviously far more cat-like. And while this song will now be stuck in our head for a few weeks (especially since we’ve watched this way more times than we’d like to admit), that’s totally fine. Every time we hum it we’ll be reminded of the fizzgigs—and that’s never a bad thing.
If you haven’t had a chance to check out the show yet and this your first introduction to the theme song for it, you can check it out here on Spotify. Composer Daniel Pemberton’s score is one of our favorite parts of the series.
The real question is why stop here? We already love Pemberton’s track “Aughra Awakes”—which we already told you about—but maybe we’d love it even more if the fizzgig chorus gave it a go.
Fizzgig has been our favorite thing on Thra for almost four decades already.
Every episode of The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance is now available to stream on Netflix.
