There isn’t anything that Tom Cruise cannot do. He’s a world-class fighter pilot, a secret agent on an impossible mission, a vampire, and a great stunt person in his own right. We’ve watched him run, leap, fly, and much more for forty years now, and he doesn’t seem to be slowing down anytime soon. However, his upcoming role in Digger is perhaps the weirdest and least Tom Cruise-like character that he’s ever taken on, as we see in its bizarre final trailer.
We see Digger Rockwell, a wealthy oil tycoon whose business ends up causing a major disaster that causes global disruption. He goes on a quest to fix his failure and try to save the world. Cruise looks almost unrecognizable, and it is honestly funny that, at age 64, he needs heavy makeup and prosthetics to look old.
He’s joined by very good company, including John Goodman as the President of the United States and Riz Ahmed as a scientist and right hand to the POTUS. Cruise has been nominated for an Academy Award but he has yet to win a competitive one. If the trailer is any indication, Digger might be his ticket to scoring an Oscar, and we’d love that for him.
