Tom Cruise Gets REAL Weird in Wild DIGGER Trailer

Until now, Warner Bros. has been coy with the marketing of Digger, the next film from two-time Best Director Oscar-winner Alejandro G. Iñárritu. The studio had only given us brief snippets that merely hinted at a very unusual Tom Cruise performance in a very strange film. Those small sneak peeks had us intrigued. Now, after the first full Digger trailer, we’re all in. Because Digger is even more bizarre than we thought, with a Tom Cruise who looks way weirder and wilder than we expected.

Nerdist Take: Digger Trailer Is Totally Bonkers and Tom Cruise Is Even More Bonkers Than Expected

The most powerful man in the world embarks on a frantic mission to prove he is humanity’s savior before the disaster he’s unleashed destroys everything.

That’s the official synopsis for Digger from Warner Bros. Pictures and Legendary Pictures. But as the Digger trailer shows, that logline doesn’t come close to capturing the absolutely bonkers energy of this political comedy. It doesn’t even hint at the fact that it stars the most famous actor in the world as an old, wrinkly, overweight madman. This Digger performance makes Cruise’s turn in Tropic Thunder seem subdued and quiet.

We can’t wait.

Digger truly is a fantastic combination of director, star, and premise. (A rich idiot mega billionaire who is destroying the planet but also believes he alone can save it? Where do they come up with these outrageous ideas!) This is exactly the type of atypical role we want to see Cruise in as often as possible. But Digger has even more going for it than that, as we can see from the trailer. It also stars John Goodman as the President of the United States, as well as Riz Ahmed, Sandra Hüller, Michael Stuhlbarg, Jesse Plemons, Robert John Burke, Emma D’Arcy, Burn Gorman, and Sophie Wilde.

Digger Will Release This Fall

Will any of their characters survive the possible end of the world or Tom Cruise’s wigs? We’ll find out when North American audiences get to dig into Digger this fall on October 2, 2026. Until then, we guess you can enjoy the Digger trailer on loop until your brain melts.
