DC Characters To Cameo in STUART FAILS TO SAVE THE UNIVERSE

Nerdist was in attendance at San Diego Comic-Con, where DC President Jim Lee made a surprise appearance at a Stuart Saves the Universe panel in Hall H. There, he said that several (major) DC characters will appear in one of the show’s episodes.

Lee was involved in the making of Stuart Fails to Save the Universe, from looking over the script to giving the show permission to use DC characters. He also recalled a set visit where he was “blown away” after being shown the visual effects, Stuart’s comic store’s new elements, and discussing the plot.

The upcoming show is a sci-fi-comedy spinoff of The Big Bang Theory, with multiple iconic cast members rebooting their roles. While the creators kept the charming, awkward comedy, the premise of this show is very different. Lee described it as, “Nerds going through Gulliver’s Travels.” If the trailer says anything, it’s that it’s all one big reference to other media. From imitations of The Matrix‘s goo pods to the rugged Wasteland of Mad Max, there is something for everyone.

There isn’t much we know about who will appear or which episode will focus on the DC universe. The panel moderator put a LOT of emphasis on not spoiling the show. However, the panelists implied that the cast would interact with some major DC characters. The trailer includes a short clip of what appears to be a confrontation with Mr. Freeze, one of Gotham’s villains.

While we don’t know much, we do know that the portrayals have earned Lee’s praise.

“Some of the DC characters they have in it, I think, are some of the best versions I’ve seen of those characters,” Lee said during the panel.

This means a lot coming from Mr. DC himself and sets a high bar for the episode they appear in. I have high hopes.

The 10-episode show premieres on July 23 on HBO Max.
