The Angels have gone international. In what’s become one of our most-anticipated action films of the year, the Charlie’s Angels franchise is making a grand return with a fun twist. While the original series, and subsequent early 2000s films, featured a trio of kickass detectives working for a mysterious man named Charles Townsend with the intermittent aid of right-hand man Bosley, the 2019 film sees the Townsend Agency having expanded worldwide with a surprising (and delightful) catch: there are multiple Bosleys.
In the latest trailer, Naomi Scott’s Elena finds herself swept up into the world of the Angels as their newest recruit, joining Sabina (Kristen Stewart) and Jane (Ella Balinska) on a mission to protect the world from a dangerous piece of technology.
Director Elizabeth Banks takes the helm as the next generation of fearless Charlie’s Angels take flight. In Banks’ bold vision, Kristen Stewart, Naomi Scott, and Ella Balinska are working for the mysterious Charles Townsend, whose security and investigative agency has expanded internationally. With the world’s smartest, bravest, and most highly trained women all over the globe, there are now teams of Angels guided by multiple Bosleys taking on the toughest jobs everywhere.
Pitch Perfect‘s Elizabeth Banks is directing the film, having also written the script from a story by Evan Spiliotopoulos and David Auburn. The director also stars alongside Djimon Hounsou and Patrick Stewart as the trio of Bosleys guiding the Angels, while Sam Claflin, Chris Pang, Jonathan Tucker, Luis Gerardo Méndez, and To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before breakout Noah Centineo also star.
In addition to a whole lot of bad guy butt whooping, the trailer teases a highly catchy soundtrack, which includes Ariana Grande, Miley Cyrus, and Lana Del Rey’s collaboration “Don’t Call Me Angel.” The soundtrack also features new music from Normani, Nicki Minaj, frequent Grande collaborator Victoria Monet, and Chaka Khan.
The new trailer is an exciting follow-up to our first glimpse of the film back in June. The first trailer, while also depicting Elena’s introduction to the spy world, teased all the exciting gadgets and disguises we loved about the previous iterations of the franchise.
