Sauron manipulated and used Celebrimbor in The Rings of Power‘s second season. The dark lord then killed the legendary smith. Eregion’s ruler refused to tell Sauron where he’d hidden the rings they’d forged together. It was a sad end for one of Middle-earth’s most celebrated elves. But it turns out it wasn’t the end of his time on the show. Co-Showrunner JD Payne revealed that Charles Edwards will return as Celebrimbor in The Rings of Power season three. Celebrimbor’s memory will haunt an insecure Sauron as he tries to forge the One Ring.
How Will Charles Edwards’ Celebrimbor Return in The Rings of Power Season 3?
In a group interview with Collider‘s Perri Nemiroff ahead of The Rings of Power‘s third season, star Charlie Vickers talked about the internal doubt and limitations Sauron will deal with as he sets out to craft the One Ring in Barad-dûr. Vickers said Sauron can recreate, but he can’t create something on his own, when it comes to manifesting the power of the rings. But sadly, the one person who could create, Celebrimbor, was killed by his own hand. And Sauron clearly knows that because it’s that tension and insecurity that will allow Charles Edwards to return as Celebrimbor in the world of The Rings of Power season three.
Paybe jumped in to explain that those doubts in Sauron’s mind will physically manifest in the form of Charles Edwards’ Celebrimbor, who will appear as a type of ghost/memory, haunting Sauron. The dead craftsman will “give voice” to Sauron’s feelings.

Payne shared a memorable line that Celebrimbor’s memory/ghost will say to Sauron in The Rings of Power season three. He will tell the dark lord, “The work simply isn’t in you.”
That’s a really good line. Since Celebrimbor is really just Sauron’s own feelings about his inadequacy and shortcomings, the words offer real insight into his internal struggle while trying to forge the most powerful item in the history of Middle-earth. The line is actually so good; we really wish we got to hear Charles Edwards say it for the first time while watching the show, not in an interview that aired months earlier. But hopefully, there are a ton more where that came from.
Hearing it now won’t change the inevitable, though. No matter how much the memory of Celebrimbor hinders him, and no matter how limited his own skills, Sauron will forge the One Ring in season three. The question will be how much more powerful it could have been with Celebrimbor helping him rather than haunting him.
