Celebrity Fan Letters come to life in DEAR… Trailer

The late, great rapper and philanthropist Nipsey Hussle once said, “The highest human act is to inspire.” Inspiration comes from many sources, whether it’s someone in your personal life like a family member, teacher, or coach. Or perhaps it is a famous person who is achieving all of the things a person aspires to do one day. Apple TV + is showing how several influential people in the music, arts, television, politics, and more have made a difference. But, instead of doing the typical interview or biography, their stories will be told via fan letters. The network’s upcoming show Dear… is a much-needed happy thing with a trailer that will make you feel feelings.

The 10-episode series will follow a different cultural figure’s impact on society. Big Bird, Oprah Winfrey, Stevie Wonder, Misty Copeland, Spike Lee, Lin-Manuel Miranda, Gloria Steinem, Jane Goodall, Aly Raisman, and Yara Shahidi all appear in the trailer as different letters are being read about their impact.

Stevie Wonder, who recently celebrated his 70th birthday, said one letter made him want to write and play even better than he does now. Is that possible? Ballerina Misty Copeland takes a trip down memory lane, recalling how ballet made her feel beautiful for the first time. The Dear… subjects all speak about how powerful it is to inspire people to be their best and go out to make a difference in the world.

“If every one of us focused on something that you want to change, we could change the world.” – Aly Raisman

The clip ends with Hamilton star Lin-Manuel reciting a letter from a fan. “There’s a line from In the Heights that says, ‘Wherever we go we rep our people.’ Because of you wherever my life takes me I will always represent my people,” Manuel reads through tears. He then offers her a sincere and heartfelt thank you for her kind words. Awww.
