Adam Savage Encounters an Original GREMLINS Gizmo Puppet

One of the most iconic creatures from ’80s cinema is Gizmo from Gremlins. Back in the day, kids everywhere wanted their own lovable Mogwai. Even if they knew they had to follow some very strict rules with it, or have a little monster infestation in their hometowns. Well, if you were one of those kids, now you can own an original Gizmo animatronic from the film, created by the legendary Rick Baker. It’s up for sale as part of a massive entertainment memorabilia prop auction from the Prop Store Los Angeles.

But before it goes to the highest bidder, Adam Savage got to spend some time with the original Gizmo prop as part of his Tested YouTube channel. And he was as giddy as a little kid getting to be around one of his childhood favorites. You can watch the full video here:

As you can see in the video, this Gizmo animatronic is actually from the second film, Gremlins 2: The New Batch. From a visual standpoint, the second Gizmo is identical to the first. But the crew made incredible improvements as to how the animatronic functioned for the sequel. Especially as there were six years between the first and second films. Unfortunately, after 30 years, it is far too precarious to try and work those gears today. Although clearly Adam Savage really wanted to try. (We don’t blame him).

The Gizmo animatronic is just one of several Gremlins items up for auction from the Prop Store Los Angeles. This latest auction is particularly massive, with hundreds of items from your favorite pop culture franchises. There are high-end items from movies like Back to the Future, Terminator, Labyrinth, the X-Men franchise, and Marvel Studios. But the bulk of the items come from the Lucasfilm archives. With a metric ton of props and vintage merchandise from the Star Wars and Indiana Jones films. If you have the means, this is definitely one auction you don’t want to miss.

The Prop Store Entertainment Memorabilia Live Auction begins on June 21, and goes through June 24. For more information, be sure to click here.
