The Mandalorian‘s first season deserves all the praise it gets. From Baby Yoda and Pedro Pascal’s badass bounty hunter, to incredible guest stars and innovate filmmaking, the first-ever live-action Star Wars series didn’t just deliver a valuable asset. It exceeded our oversized expectations. But one of the best elements of the Disney+ series is something we never saw, just heard. In classic galaxy far, far away tradition, it has an incredible theme song. And now it finally has an incredible music video worthy of such a memorable track. It features its composer Ludwig Göransson performing on The Mandalorian‘s sets.
This is the way to enjoy the song.
Star Wars shared an original music video (which we first came across at io9) for The Mandalorian‘s banger of a theme song. It stars Swedish Oscar-winner Göransson (Black Panther) playing the various—and varied—instruments used in the song, all while sitting amid many of the sets seen in season one.
This video utilizes the incredible technology Lucasfilm employed on the show. The Mandalorian did a lot of filming on massive, virtual, 360-degree sets. This really highlights how immersive and effective that technology really is. Göransson goes from sitting on a rock against a beautiful desert skyline to being in front of a massive green screen. Without that change you’d never know he was inside.

More importantly though this video highlights the complexity of the song. It’s indebted to Ennio Morricone’s iconic work in Sergio Leone’s spaghetti Westerns. But its use of synthesizers, combined with a mixture of instruments both common and unusual, make it sound like a rock song an alien boxer would use as entrance music in a sci-fi sports movie.
It’s why it’s one of the best theme songs we’ve ever heard. And now its also one of the best we’ve ever seen.
