Kristen Stewart Leads CHARLIE’S ANGELS’ Newest Generation in First Trailer

Every time Hollywood releases another remake, reboot, or sequel 30 years in the making, a chorus of people complain about how unoriginal Tinseltown has become these days (as though this hasn’t been happening forever). Sometimes they are completely justified, but, until people stop going to see them, the movie industry will keep making them. Popular IPs don’t just have brand name marketability, they already have a built-in fanbase covering generations. On special occasions though, returning to those classic properties with a fresh, modern take makes for something new and exciting that wins over even the biggest skeptics. Whether or not the latest version of Charlie’s Angels turns out to be one of those cases remains to be seen, but based on the exciting first trailer for the film it looks like it has an excellent chance.

The mysterious Charles Townsend’s security and investigative group is back with director Elizabeth Banks’ reboot of the franchise, starring Kristen Stewart, Ella Balinska, and Naomi Scott as the trio of trained undercover agents, with Banks as their own Bosley. This time Charlie’s secret group has gone international, and that means entire teams of Angels protecting the planet. “With the world’s smartest, bravest, and most highly trained women all over the globe, there are now teams of Angels guided by multiple Bosleys taking on the toughest jobs everywhere,” including a new team tasked with preventing a dangerous weapon from falling in the wrong hands.

We’re not sure anyone was clamoring for a Charlie’s Angels reboot, but it took us about seven seconds seeing Kristen Stewart in that wig and beating that guy’s ash for us to be all in on this. With all of the disguises and locations, as well as the great action-sequences, this looks like it will capture the spirit of both the TV series and original films all while feeling new and original. This is like someone combines Mission: Impossible with Spy and Ocean’s 8, and that’s one here of a combo.

Not all reboots are bad, and this one might be great.

Written by Elizabeth Banks from a story by Evan Spiliotopoulos and David Auburn, Charlie’s Angels comes to theaters this fall, November, 15.
