Drones may be able to make cakes now, but at least for the time being, they’re not able to get the job done quite as cleanly or artistically as we and our fleshy, human bodies can. Humanity has created cakes based on pop culture characters, cakes that look like a Mario coin block, and cakes that look like cheeseburgers. We’re now entering a new arena of hair and height, though, because the Letterpress Bakery in Vancouver, Canada has created a Marge Simpson cake that is scarily accurate.
The cake is an artistic achievement, so while we’re not saying that it’s easy, the making-of video above shows that the process of making a cake that tall isn’t as much of a structural nightmare as you might imagine. It seems to stand up on its own pretty well thanks to a support rod that runs through the middle of the cake. That’s only the start of the battle, though, because from there, it becomes about fleshing out the shape in greater detail, then nailing the aesthetics with carefully considered use of modeling chocolate and fondant.
