MCU Movies to Move from Netflix to Disney’s Streaming Service

When Thanos snapped his fingers he halved the universe’s population, but that seems like mercy compared to what Disney will be doing to Netflix when the Mouse House launches its very own streaming service next year, because Disney will be moving every movie from the Marvel Cinematic Universe to its own site. The only Marvel properties that will survive the great VOD dusting will be Netflix’s TV shows.

Disney executive Ricky Strauss, president of content and marketing for the still-unnamed streaming service, gave some of the first details to The New York Times about what the site will look like when it launches in 2019, including that they will let their licensing deal with Netflix expire. Every MCU movie currently hosted on Netflix will be leaving the site, and the next film in the franchise, next March’s Captain Marvel, will be the first to head directly to Disney’s site instead of Netflix.

However a Disney spokesperson also told the Times that as of now there are “no current plans” to also take the Marvel-themed shows that air on Netflix, including Jessica Jones, Daredevil, Luke Cage, The Punisher, Iron Fist, and The Defenders, but “no current plans” speaks for itself.

This isn’t exactly surprising news; we always expected Disney to bring the MCU “home,” but it does mean one of the few remaining members of Earth’s mightiest heroes who will still be around to protect Netflix from evil is this guy.

That is unless he was one of Thanos’ victims who also vanished into dust. Now that would be mercy.

Will this impact whether you keep Netflix or subscribe to Disney’s streaming site? Tell us why in the comments below.
