Color-Changing HARRY POTTER Sorting Candles Find Your Hogwarts House

There are a lot of really cool ways to find out which Hogwarts house you belong to outside of the most canonically accurate quiz on Pottermore. From bath bombs to creme-filled cupcakes, Harry Potter fans have gotten super creative when it comes to house sorting. And now there’s a brand new sorting method that would be worthy of the Great Hall at Hogwarts.

The Etsy shop the Happy Piranha, a vegan, cruelty-free, book, gaming, and geeky gift company has created some pretty awesome candles that will reveal your Hogwarts house (via Geeky Merch). Each candle comes in a tin decorated with each house’s crest and will burn for about 35 hours. When you light the candle and let it burn for a bit, the white wax will melt away to reveal a portion of red, green, blue, or yellow wax, depending on where this magnificent sorting candle has chosen to place you.

But this isn’t just a candle with some hidden, colored wax. No, these candles are also scented to match your house’s characteristics. While the glittery, white wax concealing the house color that is found on every candle offers the same, soothing, vanilla scent, the scent of the wax for each house color is unique. The red Gryffindor wax gives off a cocoa log fire and cinnamon smell–a bold scent for a bold house–while the yellow Hufflepuff wax has a friendly, welcoming scent of lime, basil, and mandarin. The green Slytherin wax smells of sea breeze and leather (because nothing says ambition and cunning like sea breeze and leather, I guess) and the blue Ravenclaw wax has the sent of a truly wise, creative combination of cucumber, cocoa leaf, jasmine, and green tea.

While these candles don’t really take into account your individual characteristics as a human, this is a fun and creative way to decide what Hogwarts house you belong to. Plus, unlike the Pottermore quiz, it’s super easy to try again if you’re not happy with your initial house assignment–just light another candle! So whether you’re hitting up the Happy Piranha to give the candle as a gift or just having fun with the candle in your own home, this is a great way to bring Hogwarts magic right into your living room.

Do you like the idea of a sorting candle, or do you prefer something more intensive like a quiz or personality test? Which Hogwarts house do you belong to? Let’s talk about it in the comments!
