New GHOSTBUSTERS Sequel Has a Teaser

The Ghostbusters are returning to the movie theater soon than you think, and it appears Jason Reitman, director of films like Juno and Thank You For Smoking, not to mention the son of the original Ghostbusters director Ivan Reitman, will be writing and directing the new film for Sony.

According to the original report from  Entertainment Weekly, the new movie will be a sequel to the original film, or, at the very least, set in the universe established by the first two movies. This means they will essentially be ignoring the events of the 2016 reboot from director Paul Feig. The movie is set to start filming in a few months and currently has a 2020 release date.Reitman told Entertainment Weekly, “I’ve always thought of myself as the first Ghostbusters fan, when I was a 6-year-old visiting the set. I wanted to make a movie for all the other fans. This is the next chapter in the original franchise. It is not a reboot. What happened in the ‘80s happened in the ‘80s, and this is set in the present day.”The original film suggested the Ghostbusters could become a franchise one day, so who knows what a mega-supernatural eliminations company could look like 35 years later?Seeing how this is set in the timeline of the original films, it begs the question: which of the original Ghostbusters will appear in this new chapter?  Dan Aykroyd is almost a given, but can Bill Murray be wooed back as Dr. Peter Venkman? He had a cameo in the 2016 reboot, but it was as a different character. And what about Sigourney Weaver and Ernie Hudson? We just hope little Oscar from Ghostbusters II is all grown up and part of the team now. That’s fan service we can get behind!
