It’s the show that launched a network, defined a generation, and informed more modern TV series than I have room to mention here: I’m speaking, of course, of Buffy the Vampire Slayer. To celebrate the iconic series turning 20 years old, Entertainment Weekly gathered nearly the entire principal cast from the show’s seven seasons on the air for a special Buffy the Vampire Slayer reunion photo shoot.

Series creator Joss Whedon was on hand for the reunion, as was Buffy Anne Summers herself, Sarah Michelle Gellar. Joining them were Alyson Hannigan (Willow), Nicholas Brendan (Xander), Charisma Carpenter (Cordelia), Kristine Sutherland (Joyce), Seth Green (Oz), David Boreanaz (Angel), James Marsters (Spike), Alexis Denisof (Wesley), Emma Caulfield (Anya), Amber Benson (Tara), and Michelle Trachtenberg (Dawn). Sadly, Anthony Stewart Head (Giles) couldn’t make it, but cut the guy a break–he lives in the U.K.
You can watch a behind-the-scenes video of the reunion down below, and for a longer version, be sure to click here.
It’s clear from the interviews that Sarah Michelle Gellar doesn’t take the legacy of Buffy lightly, saying, “I’m so incredibly proud of what we all created. Sometimes you need distance to really understand the gravitas of that. I appreciate everything about that job. As an actor, all you ever want to do is leave your mark — you want to do something that affects people.” [mpx_video type=”alpha” guid=”l9_pTwiR_PBnnJ2CpPrst6CxrxLQqqmp”] Although a Buffy reunion TV series was not announced at the photo shoot (dang it), Entertainment Weekly did take the opportunity to announce a new series of prose novels set in the Buffyverse. Called Slayer, these books will deal with one of the many girls empowered with slayer abilities around the world in the show’s final episode, “Chosen.” The YA series will be written by author Kiersten White and debut in the fall of 2018. Hopefully, Buffy herself will make an appearance in the series at some point. For more from the photo shoot, be sure to check out Entertainment Weekly’s Instagram account, which is chock full of pictures of the Scooby gang’s big reunion.
