It’s been 21 years since Jeff “The Dude” Lebowski bowled off into the sunset whilst a behatted Sam Elliott told us to take comfort in the fact that “The Dude abides.” The Coen brothers’ The Big Lebowski has become one of the most beloved cult films of all time, spawning conventions, propping up the White Russian, and giving oversized cardigan sales a boost. And for as long as Jeff Bridges is around and sports a great beard, people will always hope they can see the Dude abide again…and it turns out, on February 3, we will, as the actor just tweeted a tantalizing video.
Can’t be living in the past, man. Stay tuned. pic.twitter.com/zL2CLYhGAM

Now, given the date of February 3, 2019, we’re going to assume this is just a commercial going to air during the Super Bowl and not a subtle announcement of a sequel. Why would they do a sequel? Why would we need to see Jeff Lebowski in, what, the Obama years? But given how much hype there was surrounding the totally real (but ultimately just a big push for Australian tourism) commercials for another Crocodile Dundee sequel starring Chris Hemsworth and Danny McBride, we’re not surprised Bridges would don the most comfortable wardrobe he’s probably ever worn yet again.
Bridges’ tweet includes the words “Can’t be living in the past, man,” which I’m sure has to do with whatever product is being sold and not a for-real movie. Also, if the Coen Bros and Jeff Bridges were re-teaming for a real sequel to The Big Lebowski (almost surely called The Bigger Lebowski), there’s no way they’d be able to keep it a secret all the way until teaser time.
So, as fun as it might be to think about another feature-length adventure of everyone’s favorite goldbrickin’ Don Henley hater, it’ll probably just be a commercial.
