Daniel Radcliffe Takes the Stage as ‘Weird Al’ in WEIRD Teaser

Grab your accordion, things are about to get weird. For the last several months, we’ve anxiously awaited our first official footage from Weird: The Al Yankovic Story. And luckily, that day has arrived. The Roku Channel just released the teaser for the autobiographical film, which features Daniel Radcliffe as “Weird Al.” If the whole movie is anything like this minute of chaotic goodness, we’re in for a treat.

We can already see why “Weird Al” Yankovic hand-picked Radcliffe for the role. He just knows how to bring the weird, fun energy—everything we love about Yankovic. The comedy recording artist writes the script for his own biopic alongside the film’s director Eric Appel. The pair also serve as executive producers. While Radcliffe is the star of the show, he’s joined by a pretty stacked supporting cast. This includes Julianne Nicholson and Toby Huss, who are playing Yankovic’s parents; Rainn Wilson as Dr. Demento, the man who thrust “Weird Al” into the spotlight; and Evan Rachel Wood as Madonna. Yep, that Madonna.

Here’s what the film is about per The Roku Channel:

The biopic holds nothing back, exploring every facet of Yankovic’s life, from his meteoric rise to fame with early hits like ‘Eat It’ and ‘Like a Surgeon’ to his torrid celebrity love affairs and famously depraved lifestyle. WEIRD: The Al Yankovic Story takes audiences on a truly unbelievable journey through Yankovic’s life and career, from gifted child prodigy to the greatest musical legend of all time.”

Everything about this movie seems like a blast. But given the generally good vibes both Yankovic and Radcliffe bring, we wouldn’t expect any less. During a recent visit to The Tonight Show, Radcliffe gushed about the “Weird Al” movie, stating it’s one of his few projects he’s actually excited to watch. I mean, with that wig and those accordion lessons, we’d feel the same!

The Roku Channel hasn’t announced a release date for Weird: The Al Yankovic Story, but it debuts this fall. In the meantime, we’ll be blasting “Like a Surgeon” for the next several weeks. It’s just such an earworm.
