Weapons was supposed to arrive on our screens on January 16, 2026. But instead, it’s gotten out of bed early and is walking into our lives on August 8, 2025. Based on that vote of confidence, and everything we’ve seen so far from the movie, which includes Weapons‘ extraordinarily unsettling new trailer, we feel like Weapons will absolutely be THE horror movie we need to see this summer. After all, it comes from the mind of Zach Cregger, who brought us the 2022 movie, Barbarian—and we all know that movie kept us at the edge of our seats. So far, Weapons is doing the same thing, even just with its trailer. What did Mrs. Gandy do to make all these kids vanish? Or is the better question, who wants to blame her for the disappearance? We’re feeling like we’re about to go on TWISTED journey to discover the horrifying truth.
Please enjoy the full trailer for Weapons below, and strap in for the horror movie we’re most excited to see next.
There’s nothing like the eerie voice of a child narrating a horror movie setup. And we have to admit, Mrs. Gandy walking into a totally empty classroom in the Weapons trailer is a STRIKING visual that makes our blood run cold. Imagine that every other classroom is full, but your classroom is suddenly silent. Then, of course, there’s the terrifying version of the same classroom in a nightmarish dream, only one child is a demon. Uhoh! That’s not even to mention all the blood spurting, fork stabbing, possessed running, and screaming we see in aborted clips throughout the Weapons trailer. We’ve lost our breath, but our anticipation is HIGH.

The poster that accompanies the Weapons trailer spells out the story of the movie, almost as though it were a fairy tale. It reveals, “Last night, at 2:17 am, every child from Mrs. Gandy’s class woke up, got out of bed, went downstairs, opened the front door, went out into the dark… and they never came back again.” That’s not the kind of tale we’d want to hear, but it is the kind of movie we want to watch. The official synopsis adds, “When all but one child from the same class mysteriously vanish on the same night at exactly the same time, a community is left questioning who or what is behind their disappearance.”

In addition to the poster and trailer, Weapons has set up a mini-interactive website that really evokes a specific feeling. https://www.maybrookmissing.com/ offers us the perfect blog post from a PTA that doesn’t really know what it’s doing on the computer. The text shares:
MAYBROOK PARENT TEACHER ASSOCIATION
To all the concerned members of the Maybrook community, we will not rest until this mystery is solved.
At 2:17am, Wednesday morning, a group of 3rd graders from our school in Ms. Gandy’s class, who had recently transferred after an incident at her previous school, voluntarily left their homes. Authorities are baffled by the inexplicable disappearances, which has shaken the community to its core.
In the aftermath of the disappearance, we held a school assembly where numerous parents were able to express their increasing concern about both the investigation and the whereabouts of their children.
One parent exclaimed, “I don’t understand at all—why her classroom? Why only hers?” as our school principal attempted to reassure the crowd. With no sign of force, and no further information coming to light, we are left with the lingering question… WHY?
Why, indeed. The Weapons website also offers us footage from Ring cameras that shows the children running into the night. We see a little bit of that kind of found footage imagery in the Weapons trailer and feel that’s a really excellent haunting element to include. There’s nothing worse than looking on your security camera and seeing something that shouldn’t be there…
Weapons stars Josh Brolin, Julia Garner, Alden Ehrenreich, Austin Abrams, Cary Christopher, with Benedict Wong, and Amy Madigan. So we know we’re in good hands. Also, fun fact, Weapons is rated R for “strong bloody violence and grisly images, language throughout, some sexual content and drug use.” There won’t be any horror corners cut in this film. As noted, the movie will release on August 8, 2025 in the United States, and internationally beginning in August 2025.
