A WEAPONS Prequel Is Reportedly in Early Development

Zach Cregger’s Weapons is currently delighting audiences in theaters with a creepy tale about a classroom of kids who all go missing simultaneously. We won’t get into any spoilers about what happens here but let’s just say that this movie is far funnier and twisted than we’d ever imagined. So it is no surprise that New Line Cinema is already in talks to make a Weapons prequel film.

According to DeadlineOpens in a new tab, things are in the very, very early stages of development. But a Weapons prequel would make sense considering one character we meet whose backstory is ripe for exploration. It is not clear if Cregger would be involved in this project or not. It’s hard to imagine him not crafting the story considering he is on a hot streak right now.

His Resident Evil reboot is highly anticipated and people are still buzzing about Barbarian three years after its release. If we do get a Weapons prequel film, we probably won’t see its release for at least a couple of years. But that’s okay, we are more than willing to wait for more darkly comedic horror fare.
