White Wolf, the publisher behind Vampire: The Masquerade, just recently concluded its seven-year hiatus, one the company has been on since the release of its fifth edition. White Wolf was shut down and absorbed into its parent company, but as of 2025, the company is back. During Gen Con 2026, the White Wolf revealed that it will be releasing a brand-new 6th edition of Vampire: The Masquerade after over 30 years.

World of Darkness creative director Jess Lanzillo unveiled the thirty-year-old RPG’s sixth edition at a Gen Con panel titled “The Future of White Wolf.” It marks her first project with White Wolf after years spent with Wizards of the Coast and is also the first Vampire: The Masquerade project since the brand’s 2025 return.

“Never before have we been able to bring the community into a Vampire: The Masquerade project at such an early stage, and we’re confident that will help us build a line of V6 books that speaks to both new and longtime players,” said Lanzillo.

Lifelong fans of the game will be pleased to know that, according to White Wolf, the 6th edition is “built to honor the legacy” of Vampire: The Masquerade while bringing its game mechanics into the modern era. With updated tools and mechanics for players and storytellers, things will just be a bit more streamlined and “removing friction,” according to Lead Game Designer Diogo Nogueira.

The edition will feature changes to the core system for Vitae, Willpower/Health, and dice rolling. The character creation will be deeper, but the system for building NPCs will be simpler. “Devil’s Bargain” and “Choose Your Pain” are two new mechanics the edition introduces.

All of this and more will be available in the sixth edition of Vampire: The Masquerade, but for now, the alpha playtest is free and open for registration on Demiplane, with seven of fourteen vampire clans available for play.
