THE MINIATURE WIFE Trailer Turns Elizabeth Banks Tiny

We all have movies we like much more than just about everyone else. Director Alexander Payne’s 2017 Downsizing starring Matt Damon is one of those films for me. I’m confident someday it will get the shine I have always believed it deserves. That could happen sooner than later, too, because Peacock’s new series will certainly have people thinking about Downsizing. It will also have them thinking about Honey, I Shrunk the Kids. The new trailer for The Miniature Wife turns Elizabeth Banks into a tiny spouse.

Elizabeth Banks and Matthew Macfadyen is a killer combo for any story, but this series, which looks like sci-fi crossed with a rom-com, should really let both of them show off their range. The official synopsis reveals this seemingly silly premise will also get serious about this marriage. This isn’t just a funny tale about tech gone wrong. It’s really a marriage tale. From Peacock:

The Miniature Wife, based on the short story written by Manuel Gonzales, is a dramedy examining the power (im)balances between spouses Lindy and Les after a technological accident induces the ultimate relationship crisis.

The Miniature Wife comes from creators, showrunners and executive producers Jennifer Ames and Steve Turner (Boardwalk Empire, Goliath). Michael Aguilar (I’m Dying Up Here) and Suzanne Heathcote (Killing Eve) are also on board as executive produce. As are Banks and Macfadyen, Media Res’ Michael Ellenberg and Lindsey Springer (The Morning Show). And Greg Mottola (Superbad) directs episodes 1,2, 7, and 8 of the ten episode season.

The series also stars O-T Fagbenle, Zoe Lister-Jones, Sian Clifford, Sofia Rosinsky, Ronny Chieng, Aasif Mandvi, Rong Fu, and Tricia Black. The entire season will premiere at Peacock this spring on April 9. Hopefully on April 10 we’re talking about how much we all like it and it then makes everyone want to give Downsizing another chance.
