The upcoming “live-action” remake of The Lion King looks like it is set to very, very faithfully recreate the original 1994 classic, down to the last detail. This includes using every number from the original Elton John/Tim Rice songbook that helped make the first animated film so iconic. But according to a report coming from Vulture, the complete track listing for the upcoming soundtrack has a “mystery song” on it, which has many fans scratching their heads as to what it could be, and leading many to hypothesize it could come from the Queen B herself!
Currently, track 14 is listed as “TBA.” This has led many to speculate that this could be a secret song performed by Beyoncé. Beyoncé is of course one of the performers on “ Can You Feel the Love Tonight?” as her character Nala; it would seem strange that one of the biggest pop stars in the world is in a musical film and not give her a track all her own. It may be that Beyoncé wants to keep the song a surprise for when the movie comes out, as she is known to drop albums and videos out of the blue when her fans least expect it. This would all be in keeping with Beyoncé tradition.
Of course, Donald Glover is playing Simba in this film, and it’s not like he’s a stranger to making solo songs himself to great success. The mystery track could belong to him and not Beyoncé.
The current track listing is also missing “Shadowland,” along with several other songs from the the long-running Broadway musical version. But why hide any of their inclusion if it is one of those? We’ll know for sure on July 11, when The Lion King soundtrack drops, just days ahead of the June 19th premiere of the film.
