Absolutely no one would confuse the regal Queen Elizabeth II with the unforgettable Lisbeth Salander from The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo. However based on the first look at the character’s return to the big screen in The Girl in the Spider’s Web, the two may now be forever linked, because The Crown‘s Claire Foy is the latest actress to take on the troubled hacker, and she’s going to help us “discover what made her the Girl.”
In the first trailer for the film, Foy has transformed from the dignified Elizabeth into the jet black-haired, heavily tattooed Salander, who’s made it her mission to take down men who hurt women. This teaser is dark, moody, and everything you’d want from what appears to be a type of origin story, even though the source novel is, chronologically, the fourth story in the Millennium franchise.
Spider’s Web was the first story in the series not written by the late Stieg Larsson; author David Lagercrantz took over after Larsson passed away in 2004, a year before The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo was published.
The Girl in the Spider’s Web is directed by Fede Alvarez (Don’t Breathe), who wrote the script with Steven Knight (Peaky Binders) and Jay Basu. The film also stars Sylvia Hoeks (Blade Runner 2049), Lakeith Stanfield (Get Out), Stephen Merchant (Logan), and Sverrir Gudnason as Mikael Blomkvist. It spins its web in theaters this November.
