The new trailer for Ted Lasso season four touts the show’s two Emmy wins for Best Comedy. That’s the closest it comes to anything resembling humor. That’s because the latest promo for Apple TV’s hit series is not really big on being funny. It’s all about tender reunions and pleasant smiling… We’re not sure we like that.

AFC Richmond’s former mustachioed manager is back in this Ted Lasso season four trailer, only this time he’s coaching the organization’s new women’s team. Will that mean more humor than we saw in the show’s second and third seasons? If this trailer is any indication, no, not even a little bit. This is a sweet, borderline saccharine look at what we can expect when Ted Lasso returns for season four.
While Coach Lasso will be dealing with prepping a new squad for the pitch, the show will involve at least one major storyline from the first three seasons. This Ted Lasso season four trailer leans heavily into the on-again/off-again nature of Roy and Keeley’s relationship, which looks like it has the potential to be on again after he screwed things up with her in season three.
Ted Lasso season four will see many of the original stars return, as Jason Sudeikis, Hannah Waddingham, Juno Temple, Brett Goldstein, Brendan Hunt, and Jeremy Swift will all reprise their roles for AFC Richmond. This time Tanya Reynolds, Jude Mack, Faye Marsay, Rex Hayes, Aisling Sharkey, Abbie Hern, and Grant Feely will join in on the football fun. And the legendary Tracey Ullman, who appeared in an earlier trailer, has also joined the cast.
It’s impossible to have Tracey Ullman involved with your TV show and not have a whole lot of comedy. So, despite the overly sweet and tender nature of this trailer, we are confident Ted Lasso season four will make us laugh. At some point. We hope.
