Clark and Peter Meet as Journalists in SUPERMAN/SPIDER-MAN

Superman and Spider-Man are teaming up in the comics again, for the first time in fifty years. DC’s first superhero and Marvel’s mascot will team up first in DC Comics’ Superman/Spider-Man. The book arrives on March 25, with the main story by writer Mark Waid and artist Jorge Jimenez. This story marks the first time that Jimenez has ever drawn our friendly neighborhood Spider-Man. He recently took to social media to share an image of the two iconic heroes meeting again for the very first time. Not as Superman and Spider-Man, but as members of the press, Clark Kent and Peter Parker.

The main story of this oversized issue is called “Truth, Justice, and Great Responsibility.” In this story, those intrepid journalists who love a red and blue color combo, Clark Kent and Peter Parker, uncover a conspiracy that pulls both heroes into a major threat. One that involves their arch-villains Brainiac and Doctor Octopus. As for why not Lex Luthor and Norman Osborn, they’re being saved for Marvel’s upcoming Spider-Man/Superman one-shot. We’ve also got some preview art from Jorge Jimenez from the issue in the gallery below:

Here’s what Mark Waid said in an interview with the Word Balloon podcast about the importance of Clark and Peter bonding over their roles as journalists, and not just as superheroes:

Peter and Clark are working as reporters on something, and that’s how they are introduced in the story. It becomes a story not just about superheroics but about truth and about journalism and about, you know, facts and what is the difference between facts and truth? What are the responsibilities of a journalist? How do you punch Brainiac out of the sky if you’re Spider-Man? all that kind of
stuff.
