Say it ain’t so!!! We can’t have our superhero movies turn into dead-dog movies now!! That’s a completely different kind of genre, and we don’t like this mixing of the streams. But Supergirl‘s latest trailer reveals that it IS so. This is a James Gunn-run world after all, and we’re just living in it. And we know Gunn LOVES to make us sob over cute animals in pain, so we’d expect nothing less from the DCU. In Supergirl‘s official trailer, we get a taste of the plot, a Superman cameo, our best look yet at Jason Momoa’s Lobo, and a whole lot of fun space adventure-energy (plus superhero angst). You can watch the Supergirl trailer below.
It’s all about Krypto in Supergirl‘s new trailer. Kara perceives Krypto to be her only friend in the world, and she is FINE with that. At least until the villainous Krem of the Yellow Hills shoots Krypto with a poison arrow/dart that leaves him with only THREE days to live, gulp. This Supergirl trailer plot comes right out of the pages of the Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow comic. And that makes sense, because this DCU Supergirl cinematic outing was almost called Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow itself. In the comic, spoilers, Krypto does not die. So we bet the dog won’t actually meet his demise in this movie either… But this is an adaptation all on its own, so hey! You never know!
Other things we see in the Supergirl trailer include David Corenswet’s Clark Kent/Superman making an appearance to try and connect with Kara, Jason Momoa’s Lobo being too cool for school, and Milly Alcock’s Kara Danvers being kind of a hot mess, but in a totally loveable way. We also spend a little bit more time with Eve Ridley’s Ruthye, who you can learn all about here. She teams up with Supergirl because Krem murdered her parents. But as we hear Kara say, “Revenge, it won’t take your pain away.” But will Supergirl be able to follow her own advice?

In all, this trailer makes Supergirl look like an extremely fun outing in the DCU. The stakes seem sized in a way that can tell a more introspective story for a character that folks might know less well, while still giving us a super-fun adventure. The right size, if you will. And we bet, we’re going to really fall in love with Supergirl. Hopefully, she’ll be able to save Krypto, but also learn that her dog is not her only solace in this world.

Supergirl releases on June 26, 2026.
