New STAR WARS Little Golden Books Explore the Universe

Raise your hands if you had a collection of Little Golden Books lining your shelf when you were young. My hand is up. From fairy tales, to adaptations of Disney films (my Sleeping Beauty Big Golden Book is one of my most treasured possessions), to stories about animals–I can picture them in my head. I’ve rediscovered the line of books as an adult because they released lovingly and beautifully illustrated takes on the Star Wars films a couple years ago. Golden Books has been expanding their reach in the galaxy far, far away, and thanks to a heads-up from io9, their upcoming releases having me drooling more than a hungry rancor.

The two I’m most atwitter about are Big Golden Books: The Big Golden Book of Aliens, Creatures, and Beasts (releasing in January 2018) and The Big Golden Book of Starships, Speeders, and Space Stations (releasing in July 2017). The cover has my attention:

The Big Golden Books are going to clock in at 48 pages each. If you know a youngling that’s just getting into Star Wars and wants to learn more, I have a hunch these books will be perfect to guide them through the galaxy and to pique their interest. If you’re an adult who adores Star Wars, don’t let the idea that the titles are made for kids turn you off. Based on the Little Golden Books I already own, I bet the art will be out of this world. Don’t go in expecting to learn tons of new information (though there might be some tasty tidbits), instead flip through to see Star Wars aliens and creatures in a way you haven’t seen them before.

And those aren’t all! There’s I Am a Hero, featuring heroes (surprise) from the Star Wars saga in “retro stylized illustrations.” Would you look at who’s on the cover of the book? Of course it’s Rey from The Force Awakens. If you want to wait to get I Am a Hero along with other Little Golden Book titles, you can wait for the Heroes and Villains Little Golden Book Collection. It will come packaged with seven different “I Am” Little Golden Books.

See additional covers in the gallery below.

If you could come up with ideas for future Star Wars Little Golden Books, what would you choose? Let me know in the comments.
