Marvel and Lucasfilm shared a Boba Fett-sized tease on Monday. We didn’t have to wait long to learn more about the mysterious project. On Tuesday morning, StarWars.com unveiled War of the Bounty Hunters, a comics crossover. The story will reveal Boba Fett’s journey as he delivers Han Solo’s frozen-in-carbonite body to Jabba the Hutt. Writer Charles Soule and artist Steve McNiven are kicking the miniseries off on May 5 with War of the Bounty Hunters Alpha #1. And we have a look at the cover:
Marvel
The Fett-focused comic will run for five issues. After the first issue, Soule will continue the story with artist Luke Ross; the comic will crossover with all Marvel’s ongoing comic book series taking place after the events of The Empire Strikes Back. That includes Star Wars, Bounty Hunters, Darth Vader, and Doctor Aphra.
Soule tells StarWars.com that something happens after the end of The Empire Strikes Back and Fett loses Han Solo. I hope we get a flashback that shows how someone stole a massive rectangular slab from Fett’s ship. (Fett is already Solo-less at the beginning of War of the Bounty Hunters.) He’s going to do anything he can to get his bounty back; that will include going up against Jabba, Black Sun, Darth Vader… a lot of dangerous foes.
But hey, now that I’ve seen future Fett in The Mandalorian, I feel confident that the bounty hunter can handle whatever the galaxy throws at him. I’m also about 99% more enthused about Boba Fett stories since his recent appearance on the Disney+ series.
